sr 60 reconstruction/Tampa, FL
Client: Flatiron, Tidewater, Skanska, Joint Venture
Contract Value: $200 Million
Description: Major Urban Highway Construction

The reconstruction of the intersection of state highways 60 and 589 near Tampa's airport involved realignment and widening of two major highways as well as numerous ramps and city streets. More than 45 different alignments and profiles drove the convoluted grading of the embankments that carried these roadways. To allow the survey team to easily provide layout and grades for this work, Civil Geometrics developed 2D line work and precise 3D digital terrain models for all roadways including resolution of a number of conflicts at points where roadways split or converged. Loaded into contemporary survey equipment, these models enabled project surveyors to easily provide layout and grades at any point on the project. Additionally, such models are particularly useful for driving GPS guided machine control and for facilitating earthwork computations.
