Client: Huie Construction Services under contract to Northeast Utilities
Contract Value: Approximately $300 Million
Description: Precise Survey and Modeling Services in support of Nuclear Plant Decommissioning

In 2003, after 28 years of service, Northeast Utilities undertook to decommission its Haddam Neck nuclear plant and reclaim the site for general use. One of their greatest challenges was to remove the 500-ton reactor vessel from the containment building and prepare it for shipment off site. Civil Geometrics was retained to provide survey and support services toward this end.

Although not mathematically demanding, this task called for high-precision survey work to enable the reactor vessel and its shipping container to fit together properly. Add to that, the challenges of working in a radioactive environment under the rules required by the nuclear industry and this became one of our more interesting projects.
