Client: Archer Western Contractors and Archer Western/Herzog, Jv.
Contract Value: $870 Million
Description:
Major Rapid Transit System Expansion
Under contract to Dallas Area Rapid Transit, Archer Western and its joint ventures contracted to build a major northwest/southeast expansion of their light rail system. With a total dollar value of approximately $870 M, the project involves the construction of 26 miles of new light rail corridor with attendant stations and support facilities.
In support of survey operations, Civil Geometrics was retained to develop digital data to drive layout and grading for trackwork, subgrade, and structures. Complicating this effort was DART’s protocol for controlling the profile of both tracks by radial projection of elevations from a single "dominant" alignment. Our proprietary software made relatively easy work of this in developing terrain models for miles of at grade trackwork and subgrade. Additionally, cambered terrain models were produced for approximately 12 miles of elevated structures providing surveyors with an easy way of grading their stay-in-place deck forms and rail plinths. As always, early resolution of a number of design issues provided additional (if unquantifiable) benefits.
